To Luthor Huss, the rightful Grand Theogonist, the true prophet of Sigmar,
and his voice in these times of darkness, I, Hermann der Brandstifter, torchbearer
of the Cleansing Flame do send greetings and news of some importance that
is both dire and heartening. On consecutive days the Cleansing Flame has
encountered the deluded followers of the trickster god of Chaos. On both
occasions, the Cleansing Flame was able to purge the taint with victories
that bordered on massacres, but the damned ones’ followers must be many as
some of the survivors from the first battle were sighted leading the second
group. They seemed to be able to replenish their numbers with amazing speed.
I regret to report that the leader of this host once again escaped his judgment
in the flames. Moreover, he seems to be learning quickly our military tactics.
In the first battle, the men of Nordland were able to topple a behemoth
which had already suffered the stings of many arrows. Such concentrated
fire is accepted doctrine when these creatures are encountered. In the second
battle however, the damned ones were much more canny and a second giant
hid from our arrows.
I formally request that you include Sashen der Zerknirschte and the brave
men of Reikland who follow him in battle, in your prayers. Only through
their brave efforts was today’s battle won. They first charged, toppled
and slew a fearsome giant, proceeded to disperse a large group who considered
themselves the chosen warriors of the false gods, and finally, with aid
of some pistoliers destroyed a final group of armored warriors dedicated
to damnation.
I further wish to convey my appreciation for the Huntsmen of Ostland who
came to me on your word. These are true men if ever any deserved the term.
In the first battle, through clever movement and positioning, they managed
to distract a group of hounds, a tribe of Marauders and a group of Knights
of Lies along with their leader keeping all three groups from reaching the
main battle and allowing us the victory. Today, they again proved their
worth facing the same Knights and the General, distracting them long enough
that they played no part in the main battle. The Huntsmen also joined the
final charge which destroyed the tribe of the Rainbow Crow; tainted men
all whose flesh was purified in Sigmar’s Flame.
Such is the heartening news, but the speed with which the damned ones were
able to renew their assault after suffering such defeats as they tasted
in the last two days is cause for great concern. I fear darker times lay
ahead, but my faith is strong that the fire of Sigmar will continue to burn
and will once again banish the darkness. May Sigmar the Protector shield
the pure and light your path to victory.
Faith, honor and purity.
Hermann der Brandstifter, Bearer of the Cleansing Flame
So, two successful battles for the Order of the Cleansing Flame. These
were my friend’s 4th and 5th games and he is getting better. Still frustrated
by some of the rules (his Chosen Warrior block, being broken and run down
by some Free Company really upset him, as did his Minotaurs panicking when
some nearby hounds were wiped out by arrows. In his own words, "but, the
hounds were sent forward to die. Why would the Minos care?"). Stars of both
battles were definitely the Huntsmen who at 50 points managed to neutralize
500+ points of his army in both battles. The funniest occurrence (from my
point of view) was his Giant in the second game, losing combat after rolling
the 'Pick Up and ...' result, then proceeding to fall over and fail his break
test (on an 11), so even though he was unwounded (except for the fall) the
Reikland Free Company got to swarm over and kill him. My general did not
see battle in either game, but his LD was of utmost importance allowing me
to pass a number of Terror and Fear checks.
