Kevin Garnett is a career 75.6% freethrow shooter, which isn't bad. In 2001-2002, he shot a career-best 80.1% from the charity stripe, and that is stellar for someone his size. In comparison, Duncan is a career 70.1% freethrow shooter. Chris Webber has an uninspiring career average of 62.5%. Rasheed Wallace is at 70.6%. And Karl Malone registers a respectable 74.2% average. Clearly, KG is more productive once he gets to the line. You might point out Nowitzki's terrific 84.7%, but Nowitzki is a shooter and not much else. He shoots and shoots, but he has an incomplete game (poor defence and weak low-post moves). I wouldn't put in the same category as KG and Duncan. Aesthetically speaking, KG shoots a good lookin' freethrow. He has a solid routine as well: Steps to the line, right foot forward, receives the ball, bounces it exactly five times, spins it once, looks up at the rim, bends his knees, and uncoils a picture-perfect shot. |
