Loose Change by Christopher A. Lane
Back to Poetry

spend yourself - loose change in God's pocket - on
the impoverished, the marginalized, the "unclean", outcast
stretch, see how far you can go before the loaves
and fishes run out and darkness falls fast, speak
the word:  be fed, be healed, be well, as you give what you
do not have and cannot afford - holy prophet turning a brass sky
to water, listen to the rain:  lips and whispered pleas
ignore the howl of fear that rings in your ears and the paint-eyed
whore that strips herself bare in order to
distract and disable, cover your eyes until she evaporates -
dead bones in a dead field, the reapers harvesting death
leave the womb of satan's mistress and do not look
back, there is already enough salt to pickle the world
shed the skin of the snake:  just go
lose your life, find it - peace
