DYNO TUNING

Below is a list of Dyno's I have done over the course of the past couple years. The first two times I went were just for baseline runs to see what power I was putting down. And the last time I went I actually had the car tuned. Below are all the details of the dyno days I've attended...

APRIL 1, 2000:

Location: Mustang Ranch

Modifications: AEM Cold Air Intake, Comptech Header and Exhaust and Timing Advanced to 18 Degrees.

Dyno Numbers: Somehow I lost the dyno sheet so I don't have a graph to show where the power was. But I did get 157.xxwhp and 119.xxwtq. Not bad. However, my friend Ed, with just an Iceman CAI got a 153.xxwhp.

Conclusion: It looks like the header and exhaust didn't bump HP all that much. Not really the best bang for the buck, if I had paid full price for them, that is! hehe! But I am happy with the gains. I just wish I had baselined totally stock to see how much power I was making before the basic bolt-ons!

AUGUST 12, 2000:

Location: DynoSpotRacing in Mt. View

Modifications: AEM CAI, Comptech H/E, Skunkworks Cam Gears (set at 0 degrees), B&M FPR (set at stock pressure)

Dyno Numbers: I did another baseline dyno with the NSX guys this time. The cam was installed just a week prior with no tuning whatsoever done to it. I got 162.7whp and 120.7wtq. Click here to see the dyno graph... Not a bad gain with no tuning and, as I found out later, timing advanced farther than 18 degrees.

Conclusion: I wonder if I could have gotten more power if the timing was right? Probably not a lot, if any. We also found out my Air/Fuel ratio dipped a bit on the rich side at times so I would eventually need to get the fuel tuned as well. But overall, I was happy with the gains with just the cam installed. You definitely feel the added power as well!

MAY 15, 2001:

Location: DynoSpotRacing

Modifications: AEM CAI, H/E, Cam Gears, CTR Intake Cam, ITR Exhaust Cam, B&M FPR, VAFC and Timing Advanced to 18 Degrees.

Dyno Numbers: I finally got my car tuned on the dyno! I went with Reid to get his ImpostR dyno tuned as well. I had them tune my cam gears and VAFC. On my baseline, prior to tuning, I got 166.1whp and 120.7wtq. Not to shabby! However, after fine tuning the car for road racing my final numbers came to 163.9whp and 125.2wtq. You can see the baseline run in red and the final run in blue. Click here to see the dyno graph...

Conclusion: Althought the peak HP numbers dropped from the baseline, torque increased! And overall, the power curve rose throughout the whole power band. Low end is much improved along with stronger mid to upper HP. We also came to the conclussion that I eventually need to upgrade my fuel pump and injectors. My fuel pressure is at 60psi and the car seems to want even more! I am researching which ones would work best for my set-up. However, besides the AEM CAI and the CTR intake cam, Dyno Tuning the car was the best bang for the buck! After I get the fuel system upgraded, I will have to get the car tuned again!
