TRANNY MODIFICATIONS

There isn't a whole lot I can do to the tranny but here goes...

SHORT SHIFTER: I bought a no name billet aluminum adjustable short shifter. Ideally I'd like to get a C's or a Neuspeed shifter. But I don't have the cash to plunk down at the moment. But so far, it has performed very well and the throws are definitely a lot shorter. I also have the Energy Suspension polyurethane shifter bushings. It feels a lot smoother. A bit notchy but I like that. It kinda clicks into each gear.

JDM CTR TRANNY (EK9): This is the best of both world's! Not only is the gearing nice and tight (same gearing as the USDM ITR) but it is factory equipped with an LSD unit! It may not be a super duty LSD unit like a Quiafe but it is perfect for my purposes, which is a daily driver and occasional road race car. I was able to put it to the test at Thunderhill a couple months back and the LSD is outstanding. The short gearing is nice to get you up to speeds as well, but since it was my first time at a track I didn't push the engine and brakes as hard as I could have or should have! But it was definitely a major advantage at the track! I also went to the Sears Point road course and pushed the tranny much harder. It performed great, especially around the Carousel and turns 8 through 10! I gained a lot more confidence in myself and the car taking fun turns like these. This is definitely one of the best upgrades I have so far!

ITR FLYWHEEL: I got it when I installed the new tranny and clutch. Visually, you can see how much material has been removed. (sorry, I forgot to take pics) 3 or 4 pounds less of rotational mass makes a huge difference! The car revs up pretty good. I highly recommend this when changing out the clutch since it has to come off anyway. Then sell the old one to get a few bucks back. Or just shave off a few pounds from the stock flywheel. It's been recommended not to go lower than 12 lbs. on a moderately modded GSR.

ACT HD PP & STREET/STRIP CLUTCH: For my purposes, this was a good choice. I am not running over 200+whp so this combo is ideal for my application. Plus I don't really do burnouts and light to light street races. (I'm too old! hehe!) and since we had the tranny out I figured I might as well put in a stronger clutch than the stock one for the new tranny and LSD! So far it has performed very well and the clutch pedal feel is very close to stock feel, which makes it nice for street driving. It was either this ACT clutch or the RPS Turbo clutch. The RPS unit was a bit more than I could afford at the time so I went w/ the ACT and I haven't looked back since.
