I always thought that it would be cool to have The Entity in the Rage stories turn out to have some kind of dark past because he is a character shrouded in mystery. The only way I could do that after Season 2's opener "Onslaught" was to do a prequel set in The Entity's world. This is it...
For The Good Of Our Nation
The Entity had known it was coming but he was still not happy about it. He sat at a desk in front of the king, who was dressed in his ceremonial battle armour. He had short hair, a short beard and moustache and had the look about him of a man who had seen alot of things in his time. The white room they were both in was not as big as one would expect a king to conduct his business in but the king wasn't like most kings. He wore the ceremonial battle armour out of respect for tradition but he usually dressed just like everyone else. The clothes they wore in his city were as of those on Earth in the present year, 1997. Of course the wearing of the armour had signified something to The Entity as soon as he entered. It had signified to him that things were getting serious. He had just been told by the king himself that the evil forces on Earth were getting stronger. They needed another warrior. All the other warriors tags had been taken apart from one, Rage, but the problem was that there was very few, to be more precise, no candidates, for the role. No one seemed to have the right level of anger inside them to be able to use the powers. The king had suggested that they create a new warrior by any means necessary. The Entity knew what he meant.
"You mean murder don't you?"
"If need be...Yes"
"No. I can't do it. I don't want to be part of this."
"You have no choice. If you refuse to help then not only will you be helping the evil win against the good, you will also be tried for the crime. The punishment for treason is death."
The Entity considered this. "But can't you find someone else to do it?"
"Yes. But the problem is that now you know I must not tell anyone else. My people would overthrow me if they knew of this, but it's for the good of our nation, and Earth's nations."
The Entity paused again. If I don't go ahead with this, he thought, then once in court I can tell everyone what the king was planning. But he knew that that wouldn't work. The king was powerful, he could twist the truth. Also The Entity really didn't want him overthrown. The king was a good king and a good friend. Even so he knew that if he did go against him then the king would willingly watch him die. There was no easy way out of this, or a hard way for that matter and he knew that he would have to make his final decision now.
"Okay" he said "What do you want me to do?"
The next day it was The Entity sitting at the other end of the table as another man entered. The man seemed slightly nervous and carried an envelope.
"Ah hello Percy. Please take a seat."
The man sat down.
"I-I have the details of the candidate. He lives in England, Dalton to be precise. His name is..." he paused pulling out several sheets of paper from the envelope "Jake Stewart. Son of Ross and Sarah. His family has no history of mental illness. He has been bullied all through his -"
"How old is he?"
"He's 14."
The Entity looked up at Percy.
"Why are we doing this?" he asked.
"I-It's the only way. I don't like it either b-but..."
"It's the only way. I'm sorry...carry on."
"Well he's been bullied alot through school and we believe that if his father was to die in an accident then it could tip him a bit. Then we'd have to have our hands in his life a bit from then on to tip the scales enough to make him angry. Of course we mustn't allow him to kill himself or go mental and kill others. We'll have to be very careful."
"Why can't I give him his powers after the funeral?"
"That's too dangerous. If we give him the powers too soon after his father's death then we risk the inspectors taking alot of interest in it and they could uncover some evidence to prove that this was all set up. Also as I pointed out, this may not be enough. Another death after that is too risky, we'll have to nudge things in the right direction every now and then."
"Yes, I understand. Well, find me an assassin and then get back to me."
"Of course" Percy stood up and left.
The Entity looked down at the photo of Jake. He cried.
The next day there was a knock at The Entity's office door. He quickly hid the bottle of Vodka under his desk.
"Come in" he said.
Percy walked in. "H-Hi sir. I believe I, well er we've, found an assassin to do the job."
"What's his name?"
"Samuel Willis. I've arranged it for you to meet him. He's just a normal human so don't mention any thing about who you are or do any clever tricks or anything. You'll just have to act human."
"Not difficult. We're basically human anyway."
"Yeah I guess so."
"Where am I meeting him?"
"Oh he says that since he doesn't want to be talking about the job in full view of everyone he's chosen to meet you in the woods after dark. Is that okay?"
"Yeah sure. As long as you can give me a map."
Samuel Willis, was a proffessional, he had to be in his line of work. He had strength, skill, intelligence and he enjoyed his job. Of course it had it's tricky moments but most of the time he had no trouble and when he did he kind of enjoyed it. Samuel Willis wasn't his real name though but he wasn't stupid enough to go around giving out his real name, the cops would soon catch him if he did that. He had a shaved head and no facial hair. He knew that long hair would get in his eyes and that if he ever didn't to use a disguise to avoid the cops then all he had to do was put on a wig and a false beard. Currently though he was wearing face paint, forest style camoflage combat trousers and jacket. He was sitting in a tree with a sniper rifle. He was waiting for a man to turn up in a bussiness suit, carrying a suitcase. He had sent a message for the guy to come on his own but he couldn't be sure that he would. There was a noise. Twigs cracking under someones feet. He waited. A man in a bussiness suit came into his view. He was carrying a suitcase.
"Halt!" shouted Sam.
The Entity stopped.
"Put the suitcase down and back away with you're hands up."
The Entity started to get worried. If that was the cops then he'd have to disappear pretty fast but if this was Samuel then he'd have to stay. He did as the voice commanded.
Sam jumped down from the tree. He walked slowly over to The Entity which the sniper rifle pointing straight at him. He checked for weapons and then he went back over to the suitcase. He sat and opened the suitcase whilst looking up every now and then at The Entity.
"Is this the information?" he asked.
"Yes. I'll have to go through it with you though."
It took a short while to go through all the information and when they had finished the plan had been made. It was a simple plan. The forrest they were in just so happened to lead onto the road where Ross took a shortcut everyday to avoid traffic on the way to work. Sam had a very expensive stolen prototype sniper rifle. It fired pellets of Ice. These pellets of Ice when fired would go through pretty much anything and then melt away. Sometimes it didn't work but that was because it was a prototype. Sam was sure that if he timed it just right he could shoot the cars tank and once it had exploded it would miss the corner and go straight into a wall making it look like it hit the wall before it exploded.
"Now what about the money?" asked Sam.
"Don't worry" answered The Entity "You'll get it when I meet you at the sniper position tomorrow at the arranged time."
"Good...and don't mess me about or there will be trouble."
The next day they both waited on the outskirts of the forrest. The Entity had a hangover, he'd spent most of the night drinking. He really didn't want to be hear. He really didn't want to be doing this, but he had no choice. The watched as the car came past them, Ross Stewart in the driving seat, approaching the corner. The Entity changed his mind. "NOOO!!!!!!!!" he shouted. It was too late. The car was in flames smashed into a wall. Ross had been knocked out when he hit the wall. The Entity consoled himself that he probably had only had a little pain. He turned to Sam who punched him in the face.
"What the hell was that?!" he shouted.
"Sorry...let's get out of here"
They both went their separate ways.
"Is it done?" asked the King.
"Yes. It's done." Answered The Entity.
"Is there any chance anyone will find out that he was murdered?"
"There's always a chance but I think you'll be safe."
"Good" the King paused "and thank you. That meant a lot."
"I had no choice."
"No I guess you didn't. But thank you anyway."
The King left the office.
The Entity thought of the candidate...the boy. It wasn't going to be easy for him but he knew that it would also be difficult for him. He felt the guilt and he was sure that the king would ask him to train the boy. Jake, that was his name. He worried that if the boy, once he was Rage, ever learnt about the prophetic dreams that were part of his powers, that he would learn of what he had had to do. He then wondered how he would be able to even train the boy when he had been involved in his father's death. He poured himself another glass of Vodka and leaned back.
