Debbie's Notes

October 2004

October is my favorite month. Why? It is Halloween. Joking! It is the month that Juan and I were married. On a cool crisp Amarillo, Texas fall evening. October 26, 1972. It is fall, time for a furlough, but for several reasons we will not be able to take a real furlough again this year. However we will be willing to make special short trips for special reasons. You! Email me if you would like a visit from us. This will not be my usual profile letter. No, not at all. This one is about Juan, the love of my life. I am very grateful that God has allowed us to reach this point in our life together, because it is a much sweeter time then when we were young. I am grateful that God has been in the midst of this marriage from the very beginning and He will see us throughout the remainder of our lives.

SIT WALK AND STAND

Juan has guided our family and has prayed us through many trials. He is now in charge of guiding a church plant and this puts him in a place where he prays much and takes a lot of heat. He would tell you he stands. Because, he just re-read Watchman Nee’s book Sit, Walk and Stand. Juan is a man who ‘stands’ firmly on what Jesus Christ has already done for you and us. The Lord’s finished work at the cross and that is what he lives for.... To proclaim this fact to as many people as he can. You will find him doing this one on one, which he loves the best, in Plazas and Parks and the church here in Zacatecas. Last night at a Bible Study Home group, a young student said, that what Juan shared last week she lived out this week. Monica, the first student convert here with La Viña Zacatecas, has been through a lot lately. Her mom just passed away. Now she calls me Mama Debbie. I call her Preciosa, cause that is really what she is to me. I will profile Monica possibly next time. She thanked him for the truth that he shared. Right then I saw, it is true, he is helping many through the fact that he stands on what God’s Word says and he gives so automatically. And it blesses me to be the wife that was sitting next to him when he received this compliment. But I also sit walk and stand with Juan when people, influenced by the devil or their own ignorance are throwing all kinds of assaults at him. But, God is so good to arrange a person to encourage the work that God is using him to do. I am confident that God has heard many more ’thank you’ for sending Juan than can be imagined.

Juan's brother,Rafael, Juan, and Juan's Mom

Can’t say much about a man without mentioning his Mom(Celedonia Garza). She worked several jobs at a time to make sure that her children did not go without. Thanks Mom. This boy of yours is now a Godly man, a great husband, dad, and Grampy. Rafael is a blessing to this work as well. Mom’s and his family’s love for him has much to do with who he is.

As far as Juan’s work in this ministry, he is tireless. There is seldom a Monday, (his day off) that you will not find him at the church office working at his desk or cleaning up the coffee room after Sunday service. One thing Juan does is take coffee and juice to the people that work downstairs from the church. I think that is really why he goes in on Monday, so he can bless them. Sometimes I tire of his attitude of thinking of everyone else before himself. Sometimes I see the giver in him as a nuisance. But then I remember that I too receive from this man with a big heart. Not only by the things he does for me, (he brings me coffee almost every morning). And I also get to reap the benefits that come to him from the fact that he is such a giver.
