22 Years of Pump Engineering

the humble petrol (gas) pump was invented. I was a pump engineer for 22 years and have diesel flowing through my veins! I have seen huge changes from the old "clock" dial mechanical dispensers to state of the art equipment using fibre optic and infra red technology, all of it now micro-processor based. This section will cover some of the earliest fuel dispensers up to the 60s and the introduction of self-service. If none of the following equipment had been invented, we would still be going to our local garage or auto store to buy fuel in 1 gallon cans. The petrol pump was invented by Sylvanus Bowser in the 1880's in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA.
