William Groves Morris, Captain, Co. H

William Morris Groves was born in Gaston County, where he resided prior to enlisting at age 36. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on October 6, 1861.  Groves was elected Captain on March 29, 1862 and appointed Major on July 30, 1862, whereupon he was transferred to the Field and Staff of this regiment. Morris later served as Lieutenant Colonel of this regiment.

Promotions: 2nd Lieutenant on 6 October 1861, Captain on March 29, 1862, and Major on 30 July 1862.  Lt. Colonel.
