Danny's team is one victory away from a World Bowl berth.

Quarterback Danny Wuerffel threw four touchdown passes and Matt Lytle added another two as the Fire ran up the third-highest score in league history to overpower national rival Frankfurt Galaxy 53-14.

Rhein's win leaves them on top of the standings with a 6-2 record and means they are close to booking a return trip to Frankfurt for World Bowl on June 25. The defending champion Galaxy, meanwhile, are out of the race after losing all four home games this season.

Former Heisman Trophy winner Wuerffel, released by the New Orleans Saints earlier this year, took his league-leading touchdown pass total to 20, including eight in the last two games, while the Galaxy gave up more than 40 points for the second straight game and the highest total in franchise history.

It was soon obvious the Fire would need none of the comeback heroics that saw them recover from 20-0 down at half-time against the Berlin Thunder a week earlier. In fact, the Fire led 32-7 at halftime after scoring on all five first-half possessions and halting Frankfurt on four of their five drives.

On the Fire's first drive, Wuerffel and Dallas Cowboy Jeff Ogden combined on a stunning 59-yard pass to set up Wuerffel's cleverly thrown 7-yard touchdown pass to the same receiver. And on the Fire's second series, former University of Florida star Wuerffel found running back Pepe Pearson breaking free down the middle to get on the end of a 34-yard scoring strike.

Rhein failed to score on their first drive of the second half but it proved only a minor inconvenience as Wuerffel sent a 20-yard pass spiralling to former Frankfurt receiver Kendrick Nord in the corner of the endzone for a 39-7 lead.

Wuerffel was far from finished and Ogden's speed helped him get on the end of a 45-yard pass to set up a four-yard scoring throw to tight end Lawrence Hart. And early in the fourth quarter, following an interception by linebacker Kendall Ogle, Pearson barged in from one yard out to take the Fire past the 50-point mark.
