You can't win by not placing your bets.
Most situations in life cannot be characterized as one where what we would like to have is clearly earned by us. If we wait for the situation to be such that a case for us not getting what we ask for cannot be rationally formulated it can be unequivocally argued that we waited too long. Most successful people can be found to have demanded the right to outperform others far earlier than when it was obvious they would. We have to go out there and demand an opportunity. I feel more than anything else the fact that has impressed me most about Americans is the belief in their right to be the best, the richest, the gifted. There was a universal perception of the need to rise up the ranks in India when I was growing up. All that stuff in Guru is very rare in India ... like trying to beat the existing players at their game just by our passion, confidence and believing in ourselves ... not just hope ). It is some thing we probably inherited from the period of British rule. On the contrary an american does not wait for someone to ask him to take responsibility. He goes ahead and demands it. He sticks his neck out knowing very well that if he does not ask for it the opportunity cannot logically be given to him. And all he has to lose by asking in nuthin!!! That's basically confidence in ourselves.
Like why aren't any google like companies coming out of India. We certainly know Computer science. We are more than 30% of all the work force in the top 5 internet based companies. But less than 10 internet startups in India have earned more than 50 million. There is a lot of risk and most of all what if. Its time to turn the tables. Come on, change India. Forget cricket, start playing games in which we are the underdog. A company like Reliance can help fund 500 software startups in a months time in India and with an average success rate the investment should earn 5 billion dollars in 5 years time. All that's lacking is CONFIDENCE !!!
