Real Fed Rate
Due to the political consequences of publicly saying it the Fed did not tell the world what it is really keeping the target at. But since the Fed meeting the Fed effective rate ( the one the Fed rate is meant to forecast ) has been at 32 bps average. Before this meeting and after the Fed had done an intra meeting cut to 1.5 % the Fed effective rate had been averaging at 80 bps. So basically the real Fed rate was at 0.80% when Fed said it would be at 1.5% and now it is at 0.3% when Fed said it will be at 1%.
It is obvious why Fed did not publicize the 0.3% number. People would be at an uproar over the fact that banks are getting capital at such low rates but lending out to businesses at like 4 to 5%. Honestly he credit crisis has been great for baks who'll survive.
