Hints & Tips

Fantasy World Dizzy is the third graphic adventure of the Dizzy series to hit the Amstrad and in my opinion the best game out of those three (possibly even the entire Dizzy collection.) As always there is a fairly lame plot giving Codemasters another excuse as to why our eggy chum has to go around collecting objects and solving puzzles. Dizzy three is no exception. In this case Dizzy and Daisy (his girlfriend) have been captured by evil trolls. Dizzy has been locked away in some dungeon and Daisy is being held prisoner in Wizard Wierd's tallest tower (which turns out to be a castle in the clouds). Dizzy has to first escape from his cell before eventually finding Daisy and rescuing the damsel is distress.

The game is a typical Dizzy adventure so fans of the first two will love it. You have the main game to complete and also thirty coins to collect. A few of these coins are well hidden but you shouldn't need to resort to going around everywhere pressing enter in the hope of finding hidden ones in the background (as was the case in the previous game). Some changes have been made which improve the gaming experience. Unlike Treasure Island Dizzy these improvements don't come with a few annoying flaws which spoil the overall enjoyment of the game.

The first thing you'll notice is that Dizzy has more than one life again. Okay it's only two lives but it's insurance against making a silly mistake and then having to redo everything again. You can't get extra lives as in the first game but two lives should be enough. The game world is better designed than the previous two adventures which means you won't get killed unless your not careful. There are perils to avoid but you won't find yourself getting killed through no fault of your own. In the last Dizzy game for example you sometimes walked into a screen only to find an enemy appear right beside you. You couldn't do anything to avoid death in such cases.

Another problem from Dizzy Two which has been solved is your inventory. Dizzy can hold two objects at the beginning but can hold more when he finds the bag. You also now get a choice of which object to use/drop. Dizzy Two forced you to use/drop the first thing you picked up.

The last Dizzy game had a shopkeeper you could talk to. This was the first character you could interact with as the first game didn't have anyone you spoke to. Fantasy World Dizzy now has a number of characters to speak to which include a troll, a shopkeeper (again) and the yolk folk. The yolk folk who appear in future games too are Dizzy's friends and family. Like Dizzy they are all are eggs and they each have their own distinct characters (sleepy guy, a hippy guy, an old timer etc). These characters either give you an object to use for puzzle solving or offer hints and advice. Perhaps it doesn't sound like such a big deal but talking to the characters is fun. I prefer this to an empty world with just puzzles to solve.

What you get with Fantasy World Dizzy is another great Dizzy game. Every new addition gives the game a more polished feel. The game is better structured than the other two and as a result is better. Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
