if the brooding melodies, foot-pounding drum lines and fragmented beats are not enough recommendation, the fact that nubreed are one of the hottest live dance acts should be. jase, db and mykel have channelled their skills into an album almost seamless in pace and rhythm. it takes a while for the slow vocals of the opening track, oddworld, to settle, but they are followed by an explosive amalgam of rolling drum lines, squelchy acid tweaks, and heavy bass. the best is saved for last: oblivion is a trancey number, reminiscent of chicane. there's also a disc of tunes by phil k.
