BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 28/04/05

In the Bromley Times this week George says we would not be on the verge of the playoffs without the help of Billy Smith. George says his arrival is key to out recent success and that he advised George that the team which had won its first five games under Wakleing was not good enough to make the playoffs, despite the immediate impact. George says that the hard work they put into recruiting new players has worked out just as they hoped.

Wakeling also says the Dulwich win was tough going until Drewetts wonder goal killed off the visitors.

George predicts the game at Banstead will be like a cup final especially as The As have 7 ex-Bromley players in the team. He says the fact that Banstead are now safe from relegation wont change anything, but he is not worried by them as we have done so well lately picking up 22 points from 24. There are no injury or suspension worries ahead of the big game.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 21/04/05

In the Bromley Times George believes that we should have picked up all three points from our game with the Police. He says he had to make a few enforced changes due to injuries to Locke and McLeod and he wasnt impressed by Bromleys first half performance, but in the second half we were the only team in it and should have taken our chances. He is pleased by the fact that we carried on creating so many chances. Adolph Amoako is singled out for praise by George for his excellent attitude during his spell on the bench and the way he took his chance when he got on.

George sees no reason why we cant win our last two games, but acknowledges that football is unpredictable and is not taking anything for granted.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 14/04/05

In the Bromley Times George expresses his pleasure over Bromley's win against Cray, saying we were worthy winners and that the Cray officials had shared this view when they talked after the game in the bar. George is not taking anything for granted ahead of the trip to Fleet, saying it is a tough place to go and he has heard that the pitch is very poor, which will not help our style of play.

Danny Carroll is an injury doubt for Saturday and Sam Okafor will miss both the Met Police and Dulwich games next week.

George does not concern himself about the opposition and will just concentrate on Bromley's performances. The Met Police game is potentially very big, with the boss saying that other sides will not look forward to playing us at the moment.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 08/04/05

The Bromley Times dedicated its whole back page to the Bromley vs Cray game on Saturday. Jerry is pictured strangling Gary Hillman. They describe the rivalry as fierce, but friendly. Interestingly Cray and Bromley have agreed to a ten year extension to the ground sharing agreement. It's billed by Jerry as the biggest game in Bromley's season and Gary Hillman says Cray would love to beat 'them' in a must win game for BFC. The Chairmen hope for a 4-500 crowd and Bromley will have many of their youth set up down at the game in a mirror of Cray's 'open day' in October. Fans are urged to come along for what should be a fantastic game.

George says he has a lot of respect for Cray, but he believes Bromley can get the three points and that the fans can see that he and Billy Smith's work is starting to pay off. Wakeling is anxious to point out he was not in charge for the 5-2 defeat in October. Logan (injured) and McGowan (suspended) are both out of the derby.

Cray manager Ian Jenkins says he is looking for the same level of performance as they showed against Newport when winning 5-0 and still hopes to get second place despite Walton beating AFC Dons 4-0 last week. Jenko was a player under George at Leyton Wingate, but George 'didn't fancy him as a player' back then, but they are good friends now.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 31/03/05

Not much new in this weeks Bromley Times. Most was covered by George's interview on Kentish Football. Additionally George targets 5 wins from the last month of the season to make the play offs. He says everyone is talking about the Cray game, but he is more concerned about Bashley on Saturday, which is equally as important. George says Falana took his goals well at Whyteleafe and was pleased with the second half display. He hopes the team carry on in that style for the rest of the season. It's confirmed that Carroll and Walker are injury doubts and McGowan is suspended for Saturday's trip to the New Forest.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 18/03/05

In this weeks Bromley Times George says he delighted with the team spirit and togetherness in the squad.

George felt that we had become far too reliant on Adolph for goals and in playing a new system on Saturay we brought more players into the game and had four different goal scorers.

George says we will have to wait and see if other teams take points off each other to help our playoff chances, but thinks we can get a result against any team in the league.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (thanks to Col) - POSTED 04/03/05

WAKE UP CULL! Is the headline on the back page of The Bromley Times!

Wakeling releases Watson, Boosey, both Kembers and Ross Edwards. Watson didn't fulfill his potential, Boosey wouldn't track back and Edwards was off the pace according to the Bromley Boss.

George was pleased with McLeod and George on Saturday and thinks McLeod will improve as he gets match fit.

Wakeling sees Croydon Athletic as very tough opponents, but says we can still get three points on Saturday after getting back to winning ways last weekend.

PLAYER NEWS FROM BROMLEYFC.NET - POSTED 01/02/05

From bromleyfc.net:

"Paul Kember's injury has thankfully proved to be not as bad as was first feared, although it is too early to tell how long he will be out for. After being stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle against Banstead Athletic on Tuesday it proved to be 'just' ankle ligament damage and he is back on his feet already.

Adrian Stone's troublesome hamstring has been responding well to treatment and we hope that he will be given the go ahead to resume training this week with a view to being in the squad on Saturday.

Jeremy Jones has recently picked up his fifth caution of the season whilst playing for the reserves and will be suspended for Saturday's visit to Corinthian-Casuals."

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 21/01/05

In the Bromley Times George hopes that we can bounce back from the two defeats with a run of good results. He even says that we will aim to win all our remaining home fixtures.

Smith and Wakeling have both watched our upcoming opponents and are attempting to famliliarize themselves with Ryman One.

George was disappointed with the goal we conceded at AFC Dons, but thought on the whole we did well. He sees the injury to Curnow as a turning point in the game.

Wakeling hopes to have one more player in by Saturday and will look to strengthen the squad more soon.

FIRST TEAM NEWS - POSTED 06/01/05

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 20/12/04

In the Bromley Times this week, George says he is pleased with his initial impact as Bromley manager. He says the players have adapted well to the new system, shut up shop and full credit to them. George is impressed with the attitude of the squad and will only strengthen the squad if they hit a patchy spell. George doesnt rule out a push for the play offs, but is looking at the bigger picture. He hopes that we will go on a good run and cash in on any poor form from the teams above us. Even though it may be too late, we will give it a go.

George says we are not the finished article, but if we improve we can push things on. George said the time was right to return to the club, which has always been close to his heart. He has promised 100% effort by the players and those who dont give their all will be shown the door.

CHARLIE FULLER DIES - POSTED 09/12/04

I received the following e-mail at my yoyo account from Sandra Latter a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately I hardly ever check that account anymore so I have only just seen it.. Here's the e-mail:

"Hi .I am the eldest daughter of one of the great players of the Old Bromley team and it is with some regret that I have to report the death of my father Charlie Fuller who captained the 1949 winning team for the Amateur Cup played at Wembly to a crowd of 96,000! (Those were the days!!) He died 16.11.04 aged 85yrs after a very short Illness. He first played for England in 1946 and was captain in1950. He captained the England squad who played at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. He had a fantastic football career on an amateur basis but loved the game passionately. He also managed the Bromley team under the direction of Charles King. Perhaps his only regret may have been that he had 3 daughters that did not follow in his footsteps!?!

I hope you could enter this in your "Un-official Newsletter" So that some body that is interested will read it. I cannot find anyone to Inform on the official sight!!.

Many Thanks."

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 19/11/04

In the Bromley Times this week, Macca says the draw vs the Dons was the right result and that both sides could have won it. He was pleased with the performance and loved playing in front of such a big crowd. Macca claims that 600 Bromley fans were there and that shows the potential support from the area. Macca says we gifted Dover the win on Tuesday in the KSC handing them both goals. Macca was disappointed, but his main focus was an FA Cup run and promotion and after achieving one he thinks that promotion is still possible too.

Macca has had Burgess Hill watched ahead of Saturdays away league game and says they like to get the ball up front early, but after a great start to the season have tailed off a bit. Arkwright (calf), Watson (arm) and Stradwick (head) are all out of the game. Matt Sheldon has joined Tonbridge Angels Reserve team.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 15/10/04

We've actually got a few lines on the back page of the Bromley Times today!

Lilywhites have an eye on an FA Cup Shock!

Macca says we are playing well and this will gauge how good we are. Macca compares it to the Thurrock game last season and says that although Sutton have had a bad start to the season they still have very good players. They were in a similar position last season before going on a mad run to second place.

Only Mark Watson is an injury doubt ahead of the big game, but he hopes to be fit.

He criticised the players for relaxing against Chatham and nearly paying the price. He wants the players to be more ruthless. He was pleased with the win and hopes to give Maidenhead a good game in the next round of the FA Trophy, a competition Macca takes very seriously.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 24/09/04

In the Bromley Times this week, Macca is delighted with the win over Fisher and hails it the best since he took over as manager. Hes going to enjoy the feeling before worrying about the Thamesmead game, adding that no one gave us a prayer against Fisher. He was delighted that we matched such a good side and thought we deserved to win over the two matches, knowing that many people thought we had blown our chance in the first game. Macca singles out Andy Walker for praise and says ref Hopkins got the penalty decision right. All attention is now on Newport IoW at home.

Steve Potterill will be out of the Newport game with a neck injury.

The League Cup game away to Hertford is going to be played on Tuesday 26 October, kick off 7.45pm.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 17/09/04

In this weeks Bromley Times, Macca says we are not far off being serious challengers, despite only getting one point from the last two games! Macca says, if you think about it those two goals cost us dear. We would have settled for a point on Saturday, but really should have beaten Casuals. The fact we didnt win that game is almost unbelievable!

Macca feels we are close top being challengers, but things just arent going our way at the moment. He is not happy with the start weve had to the season. He was frustrated by losing at Hastings after wasting early chances and was angry with the players afterwards. He says the team lacks a bit of leadership with the injuries to key players and needs to be more resilient.

The FA Trophy game at home to Chatham on October 9th will kick off at 12.30pm. to avoid clashing with the England V Wales game.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 10/09/04

Not much to report in the Bromley Times. Macca was pleased with the result on Saturday, but not quite so much with the performance.

He may look to bring in a couple of experienced players to help out the young squad. He's pleased though with the way they have stepped up in the light of the injuries to key players.

Macca says we are not playing great at the moment, but are winning, in contrast to last season when we played well and lost a lot of games!

FA CUP - POSTED 08/09/04

Bromley will play Fisher Athletic in the next qualifying round of the FA Cup. The game will be played on Saturday 18th September at Champion Hill (Dulwich Hamlet's ground).

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 26/08/04

In this weeks Bromley Times: Macca is in talks with Leroy Huggins who has just left Fisher. Macca hopes to capture the striker who had an impressive yet brief spell with Bromley last season.

He will replace Ronnie Green who has gone to Dulwich, Green failed to inform BFC that The Pinkies had first option on him if he was available. We would have had to pay a fee to sign him, which is not in the clubs budget.

New centre back Ochie Ipka is on dual registration with Lewes, but pulled his groin in his impressive debut at Dorking.

Mark Watson is out for two weeks due to family commitments.

John Myatt has been told he can leave the club as he has little chance of first team football.

Macca was pleased with the great spell of football either side of half time that saw us win on Tuesday.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 20/08/04

In this weeks Bromley Times, Macca is delighted with his sides start to the new season. Macca felt that the side missed Willy and Luckett on Tuesday night, especially in the second half. Macca has lined up a 62 left sided defender who he hopes to sign before Saturday. He says the Dorking and Whyteleafe games will be difficult, but hopes the good start will continue. Macca will let Taiwo continue to take all the free kicks and corners after two great dead ball goals in his first two games.

BRYCO CUP - POSTED 19/08/04

Bromley have been drawn against Hertford Town in the first round of the Bryco Cup. The match will be played at Hertford on Tuesday 26th October. For the other fixtures, see Will's post on the forum.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 12/08/04

In this weeks BT, Macca has acted fast to strengthen the squad ahead of Saturday's opener vs Horsham.

He has signed Sam Okafor from Hampton, he plays at centre or left back. Okafor (23) was at Colchester and also Enfield. He can also play in a midfield holding role.

He has also brought in ex-K's young striker Ronnie Green who impressed him at training on Tuesday night. Green was in the FA trophy winning side, but then lost his way for a while.

Drewett reveals why he stayed, after what he considered faliures at BFC in the last two seasons. He says the fact that he gets on with Macca and that we held on to key players made him want to give promotion with Bromley another go. Lewes had seemed favourites to get him before he decided to stay.

Tonight's match against Beckenham Town has been cancelled due to concerns over the state of the pitch ahead of Saturday's league opener.

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 05/08/04

In the Bromley Times this week, on the front cover there is a feature on Ahmet Akdag the guy who played right back for us against Palace. Hes 22 and captained the England team in the Homeless World Cup in Sweden last month. Now living in Forest Hill he has been training with Bromley all summer and made his first appearance since returning from the tournament. He played for his hostel team and was picked from 1000 trialists to join the national squad. England got to the quarter finals (sounds familiar). Ahmet is looking forward to playing for Bromley and says football has given him focus and something positive in his life.

On the back page, Macca will decide who is going to be his number one keeper within 24 hours and is pleased to have the choice of OReilly, Walker and Hunter. Harwood would still have a chance as he is willing to train hard and lose weight! Walker was at Bishops Stortford and Hunter was released by Colchetser in May. Macca is pleased with Joel Bevis who is a friend of Landry Zahana-Oni and played with him at Hastings. Ahmet Akdag (an Englishman with Turkish heritage) works with Jason McKoy and was brought down to train with BFC by him.

Macca was pleased with the performance against Palace and said we gave two silly goals away, but in general played well. Macca likes Bevis, but says he needs to get sharper. James Harris was brought in to fill the left back position as an emergency, but will need to get fitter before being considered for selection again.

The Windsor game tonight should settle a few selection issues for Macca.

NEW FIXTURE ADDED - POSTED 04/08/04

A new friendly has been added against Windsor & Eton. This will be at Hayes Lane this Thursday the 5th of August. Kickoff is at 7:45pm.

WADE FALANA RETIRES - POSTED 04/08/04

BROMLEY TIMES THIS WEEK (via Col) - POSTED 29/07/04

In this weeks Bromley Times, Macca is in talks with former West Ham and Gravesend keeper Alex OReilly. They are trying to sort out personal terms, The Irishman will apparently be in competition for the number one slot with Danny Harwood.

Colin Luckett will be out for a month with the ankle injury sustained on Tuesday night. Macca is pleased with the displays so far and actually took more from the Fisher defeat than the easy win over Tilbury. He says results count for nothing this time of year and he is looking for two good performances from our next two diverse games vs Thamesmead and Palace. He is looking for good attitude and character. Macca hopes there will be 1000+ at the Palace home game and that a number of fans will come back for the start for the league season after what they see.

Theres a feature on the new floodlights and the opening game vs Palace, which will see the Deputy Mayor of Bromley conducting the opening ceremony. There is no suggestion that Palace are only bringing a reserve side.

Jerry Dolke says the new lights are twice the strength of the old ones. He is submitting an application to the Football Trust for a grant to do work on the pitch, which will see it levelled and the drainage down the centre improved. He will also talk to the council about work to be done on the 5-a-side pitch and work on a new function hall, laundry room, toilet block and perimeter fence.

Mr Dolke thinks we can financially compete with other clubs in the new division and that good results will bring the crowds back. He is looking for the team to push on and not be complacent about the teams we face who we know little of.

There is no mention of the whereabouts of Danny Harwood at the two opening friendlies or for that matter Landry Zahana-Oni, Danny Smith or Jason McKoy.
