MOLESEY 1 BROMLEY 2 – LEAGUE 01/01/04
This was definitely a tale of two halves, with Bromley playing 3-5-2 looking all over the shop in the first half and then dominating the second period after switching to four at the back.
Two more Tonbridge players came straight into the starting line up for this one and took a while to settle into a team who looked a little nervous. The three at the back system employed by Alan Walker was rudely exposed by a hard working, yet unspectacular Molesey side who gave Bromley very little time on the ball. The home side had hit the post before they took the lead on 26 mins when a cross from the right was fumbled by Harwood and James Rose was on hand to tap in. The five man Ravens midfield tended to over play and there was no end product going into the break 1-0 down.
Walker switched to 4-4-2 for the second half and it immediately proved to be a positive move as Bromley went on to dominate the second half by shoring up the back and using the forwards' pace. The pressure was applied further when Falana came on for Harney and Bromley went with three up front for the last 20 mins. Finally on 75 mins the equaliser came when Overton crossed for Amoako to out muscle the keeper to head home from close range. Only 2 mins later the winner came. Falana closed the keeper down and forced a throw in which came to Overton who curled in a fantastic goal from 20 yards out into the roof of the net. From that point there was only one winner and Molesey ran out of any ideas and their young keeper Ibrahim was given no favours by his defence who consistently put him under pressure with poor back passes when they were closed down by Bromley’s hard working forward line. The only dampener on the day was Amoako having to go off late on with an ankle knock. This was a game we would have lost last season.
Quote for the game goes to Tim Stokes: ‘If Bromley don’t finish in the top 6, Garvo can kick me in the nuts!’
