BROMLEY 1 WALTON & HERHSAM 0 – LEAGUE 01/01/05
On a very wild and wet day at the Nest, Bromley started the New Year in perfect fashion with three more points, continuing their winning run to five league games.
Playing 5-3-2 with Watson up front alongside Amoako, Bromley had the better of the early part of the game. Watson combined with Tiffin who crossed for Okafor who blasted wide. Henriques saw his volley well saved by keeper Gindre and controversial referee Gary Johnson turned away a clear penalty for a foul on Amoako. The weather made it very hard for either team to control the ball and it was very scrappy on occessions. Watson and Okafor both went close again before Johnson managed to astonish the crowd once more when Tiffin was on the end of a terrible tackle by Thurgood who managed to escape any punishment. 0-0 at the break and now the wind would be against us in the second half.
The second half saw the wind die down, but Walton still had most of the play and put us under a lot of pressure, shooting wide or over several times. Bromley broke well though and on one of these breaks Amoako was flattened by Gindre outside of the box. As Adolph was heading towards the corner Johnson rightly only booked the keeper. From the free kick we gained a corner and from that Amoako headed towards Curnow who just flicked the ball wide. Bromley came back into the game and put the Swans under pressure. Gindre denied Luckett from a free kick, but the Ravens pushed on and from a corner on 8 5mins Curnow pounced as Gindre fumbled. The ball looked to have crossed the line despite the best efforts of Dolan, but as it came out Luckett smashed the ball home through a crowd of players to make sure it was 1-0. Walton responded with some more attacks, but these were repelled by the excellent Andy Walker in the Bromley goal and the solid defence in front of him and the win was ours. In a month under George Wakeling we’d gone from 15th to 2nd!
