UXBRIDGE 0 BROMLEY 1– London Senior Cup Semi Final 01/04/03
Bromley reached their first cup final for six years thanks to a wonderful 15th minute strike by Jason McKoy.
There was a lively start to the game by the Ravens and they took the initiative with a strong 4-4-2 attacking side. The early pressure paid off when a flowing cross field move involving Falana, George and Watts eventually saw the ball come to McKoy who took it just inside the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot which curved away from the keeper and just inside the near post. The Ravens continued to put pressure on Uxbridge There were one or two close scrapes, but we couldn’t add to the lead and were thankful to Chuck who made one awesome point blank stop from a header. Martini had a very good game, despite still really struggling with his ankle injury. It had looked almost certain that Harwood would start right up until kick off!
1-0 to Bromley at half time with the home side coming into things.
The second half was virtually all Uxbridge. We were pinned back in our own half with only the occasional break up field and George and Falana becoming isolated and chasing long punts into the corners. By the midway point the Ravens were playing an 8-0-2 formation with the midfield right on top of the defence. Still Bromley held out against mounting pressure, the back four were solid and so was Chuck once again. The closest we came to scoring was a long shot by Watts, which hit Garvo in the back and a huge punt upfield, which their keeper Pelton had to tip over. Despite the best efforts of the Match Officials to award Uxbridge as many free kicks as possible, Bromley held out to the final whistle and progressed to the final with the players and the fans obviously delighted with the prospect.
This was the first time in ages we’d come away from Honeycroft with anything, but bad memories and even the locals were friendlier than usual!
