CROYDON ATHLETIC 0 BROMLEY 2 – LEAGUE 02/03/04
Two slightly lucky second half goals were enough for Bromley to secure all three points, but it was no more than they deserved with another great performance away from home.
The first half started evenly. Danny Smith was booked after a clash in midfield, but referee Faulkner was happy to let late challenges from both sides go unpunished. The linesman’s interpretation of offside was very bizarre on occasions, but the officials were evenly poor for both teams. Dean Forbes played brilliantly at the back on his return and Drewett was all over the pitch, at one stage clearing a shot in his own six yard box. Amoako went close with a header just before the beak and at the other end Croydon hit the post. Both sides went close just after the break and then Bromley slowly started to dominate the game and push on. Paul Vines went very close, just blocked by home keeper Frankland, who was a really good laugh. Bobby George came on for Vines on 70 mins and within minutes he broke the deadlock, taking the ball through the midfield and then hitting a shot from 25 yards which deflected up and over Frankland and then looped under the bar and in for 1-0. 9 mins later Bromley forced a corner and Luckett’s powerful dead ball crept in at the near post left unguarded by Funnell. Harney and Falana came on to shore things up, Zahana-Oni and Drewett both went close before the end and Harwood made one great save when the Ravens had been caught on the break. Gibson clashed with George right at the end and although we thought he was feigning injury he actually did get a boot in the face, but the ref decided it was accidental. This was a well deserved win and you could see how much it meant to the players and the fans at the end beating fellow top six challengers.
