THAMESMEAD TOWN 2 BROMLEY 0 – FRIENDLY 02/08/03

The worrying trend of losing to lower placed opposition seems to have continued into this season as we were comprehensively outplayed by a young and strong Thamesmead team. Reid, Amoako and Watts all went close in the first half, but the Ravens failed to turn possession into goals and on 35 mins they paid the price. A mix up between Harwood and Vines lead to Mead getting a corner and with the Bromley defence flat footed, the ball was turned in at the far post by Clews for 1-0 and that’s the way it stayed at half time.

Bromley started the second half brightly - Amoako hit the bar from 10 yards and also had an effort cleared off the line. Thomas looked lively before having to go off injured. At the mid point of the half Ellis was ordered to be substituted after a terrible TFT in centre midfield. On 77 mins Thamesmead sealed their well earned victory with a magnificent solo effort that saw one of their youngsters Sam Thomas run 50 yards before beating Harwood one on one. Goodwin just chipped over late on and Pearce went close, but despite a series of corners and good moves the Ravens failed to score against a good Kent League side who look set for a promising season.

Quote for the game: ‘I’d rather be at cricket on a hot day like this than watching Bromley lose!’
