THAME UTD 3 BROMLEY 2 FA Trophy 1ST Rd 02/11/02

Another trip to Oxfordshire in appalling weather and another tale of domination not turned into goals and Thame doing us on the break. Every game we play at Windmill Road ends up like this!

Bromley took the lead in the first minute when Amaning’s header was too powerful for their keeper and he could only palm it into the roof of the net. From then on The Ravens set the pace for the entire half, but failed to add to their lead and occasionally looked vulnerable to the fats break. That said optimism was high going into the break.

The momentum shifted entirely for the first 25 mins of the second half as Thame attacked down the right wing time after time. On 54 mins Harris brought down an attacker in the box and Stewart smashed his penalty into the corner of the net to equalise. It was another break down the right that set up the goal to put the home side in the lead, when West directed his header from a cross past Martini on 68 mins. This sparked Bromley into life and for the next 20 mins it was relentless attacks from the Ravens against a 10 man defence. Amoako was introduced, with Grant Watts & Bartley playing behind him and Thompson.

Smith went close twice, as did Amoako and Thompson, before finally Thame failed to clear a corner on 86 mins and Harris crashed in an amazing over head kick to level the scores again. The tie looked certain to go to a replay, but one final break down the right caught Bromley flat footed and again West connected to the cross with a deft header to win the game 3-2!

As the Ref Alison Chapman blew the final whistle the crestfallen Ravens fell to the ground shattered.
