PRE-SEASON 2004
BROMLEY 1 CRYSTAL PALACE 2 – FRIENDLY 03/08/04
A large crowd of over 1000 turned up at the Nest to see a young Palace side led by Kit Symons take on the Ravens in a very competitive game that saw three great goals.
Bromley took the lead on 4 mins when Solomon Taywo crashed home a free kick from 25 yards, but only 3 mins later Palace were level when their No.11 performed almost a direct copy of the strike at the other end for 1-1. In a very toughly fought first half, there were plenty of tackles flying in and John Myatt got a reprimand after a late challenge from behind. Palace were quick and skilful, but Bromley matched them and looked to be stronger in the challenge. The Premiership newcomers took the lead on 28 mins when Jay Conroy crashed home a great goal from outside the box giving Walker no chance. The half closed out with both sides making chances, but no more goals.
The second half saw many changes on both sides, which did interfere with the flow of the game, but it was still good to watch. Vines had a great chance to score after taking the ball round the keeper, but he hooked his effort over the bar. There was a half shout for a penalty for a foul on Watson, but it was waved away by the local Ref Ian Crouch. Bromley strung some nice passing moves together, sometimes over playing, but clear chances were few and far between. The brilliant Taywo and the lively Bevis went close with Palace not really threatening at all. Bevis also linked up well with Bennetts towards the end with the effort just flying over. The game finished with the young Palace side coming out winners and Bromley fans wondering if it was going to be another season of great approach play, but no end result.
