BROMLEY 0 BEDFORD TOWN 1 – Bryco Cup Round 2 - 03/12/02
Bromley were truly awful and deservedly went out of the Bryco Cup on a cold Tuesday night at The Nest. The first half was notable for the poor performance of all the match officials who could agree on nothing between them! The Ravens lightweight front line and weak midfield were rudely exposed and the defence also looked very wobbly. This was exploited fully by Bedford on 27 mins when a scramble in the box saw the ball fall to unmarked Player Manager Kevin Wilson and the Northern Ireland International smashed his chance home for 0-1. Harris went closest for Bromley with a header that was well saved by Steve Wilson in The Eagles goal. Their keeper didn’t finish the first half though, after Kirk Watts beat the defence for pace he pushed the ball past the advancing Wilson and was sent sprawling with an awful scythe to the shins. The inevitable red card followed, but the free kick was wasted.
Bromley failed to make the one man advantage count in the second half and were on the whole out played by the lowly Premier Division side, who often looked like they had more players on the pitch. Watts was triple teamed at times and when crosses were put over there was an embarrassing lack of height or power to cash in on the chances. Bedford went close a couple of times, but the game really just feel away into another home defeat to a poor side. Man do we miss Bartley!
Quote of the game goes to the Bedford fans, ‘Team full of midgets, your just a team full of midgets!’
