BROMLEY 4 CHERTSEY TOWN 1– LEAGUE - 05/04/03
On the day that the TFT Bowling Team sponsored the match ball it was great to see Wade Falana take it away after scoring a fine hatrick.
The game started quietly with Bromley slowly moving up through the gears and Chertsey being pressed back. They stayed in the game only thanks to their brilliant keeper Paul Sueke who made half a dozen great first half saves. Eventually Bobby George found a way through on 17 mins with a turn and shot inside the box. Only 2 mins later though, the Ravens were caught trying to play offside and a low cross from the left was turned in by Bonaventura for 1-1.
Bromley had a series of corners that were just cleared away, but the teams went in level at the break. However, there was no sense of panic amongst the home crowd.
Bromley took the initiative from the restart and on 53 mins a great set piece put them in front. Luckett put in a free kick which Harris nodded down and Falana finished off what looked a well rehearsed move. On 73 mins George broke in down the right and his waist high cross was turned in by Falana again.
Chertsey were a very poor side and rarely got out of their half, if Bromley had been more ruthless in front of goal it could have been 10. Their approach play was a joy to watch. After hitting the bar with a fabulous effort Falana finally got his hatrick on 89 mins when Drewett surged through and squared the ball for Wade to roll into an empty net. A still injured Chuck Martini made a brave save at a Chertsey forward's feet before the final whistle came and the HLO’s could salute the players and hope they would carry this good form on into Tuesday. There seemed a real team spirit among the players and a sense of purpose about the side, who finally showed how to outclass lower placed sides.
