WHYTELEAFE 1 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 6/01/04

Whyteleafe drew their first game of the season in this dour encounter at Church Road, which neither side deserved to win.

Bromley had the best of the first half, but despite lots of possession, too many times the final ball was lacking or there was no one in the box to receive it. On 25 mins the Ravens finally did make their dominance count when Overton crossed for Amoako who looped his header over keeper Rose and into the roof of the net. Bromley were frustrated by the Leafe offside track many times and then made to pay for slack marking at a corner on 39 mins when a good ball in was headed home by the unmarked Reeve. George and Amoako worked hard up front, but they are not really cut out to make the best of Hammond’s crosses and yet again the midfield was anonymous. Keeper Andy Hunt started instead of Harwood and did ok.

The second half saw Whyteleafe on top and Bromley play on the break. I lost count of the times Leafe players threw themselves on the ground in search of a free kick or penalty. Luckily ref Woodward was not fooled by their antics. The Ravens were playing deeper and deeper and were out muscled in midfield. Falana finally came on with 20 mins left, but then Walker took off the main supply line Hammond shortly after! George and Amoako both had chances, but Rose was in good form despite his obvious ankle injury. The game ended with a series of Bromley corners, but it was not to be and it finished all square in a disappointing draw.
