EGHAM TOWN 1 BROMLEY 4 – LEAGUE 06/04/04

A first half hat trick by Paul Vines and a powerful strike by Wade Falana were enough to beat the Sarnies at the Runnymede Stadium on a very wet and muddy pitch, which Bromley did well to adapt to.

Danny Arkwright made his debut for Bromley and was really steady at the back and provided an aerial threat at set pieces. He was involved in the build up to the first goal, when he knocked down Drewett’s cross for Vines to head home from close range on 6 mins. Bromley played the better football, but Egham did test Harwood and he had to make a fine double save after Luckett had miss placed a pass. Their No.11 missed an open goal after Danny had fumbled, before Bromley pressed their advantage going forward. Some fine work by Zahana-Oni put Myatt in down the left and his cross was perfect for Vines to head home for 2-0 on 35 mins. 4 mins later it was 3-0 - this time Amoako did really well down the right and cut the ball back to Vines for him to coolly place the ball wide of the keeper from 6 yards. Half time came as a relief to a beleaguered Egham, who were visibly shaken.

The second half saw the home team start the brighter and they pulled one back on 47 mins when Bromley were caught napping at the back and the ball was virtually walked in! Apart from a couple of good saves from Amoako on the break, Egham dominated the next 20 mins and there was concern behind the goal that we might blow it, but the introduction of Suleymanoglu for Vines and Falana for Amoako gave the Ravens much needed strength up front. Zahana-Oni had an over head kick well saved and Wilfort had a header denied before Falana combined well with Drewett on the edge of the box and he drove his shot low across the Keeper for 4-1 on 82 mins. The pressure was off and we really deserved this win. Youth team captain Chris Hill came on for Drewett and did ok. He was on the end of a nasty challenge that saw the culprit sent off on 88 mins.

Quote for the game: ‘One more goal and we’ll win this.’ – Col. Subs: Falana, Hill, Suleymanoglu.

No team changes were announced, so I don’t know who played for Egham!
