BROMLEY 2 BRACKNELL TOWN 0 – LEAGUE 07/09/02
Bromley finally recorded their first league win of the season and in doing so comprehensively outclassed a struggling Bracknell. Once again The Ravens could have scored far more than the two they got, on more than one occasion they were denied by a defender on the line or the very impressive Robins keeper Hutt.
Bracknell actually started the brighter with Bromley looking a little ragged at the back, they had a goal disallowed for offside. It took 20 mins for the momentum to switch to the home side and they were soon bombarding the visitor’s goal. Saunders was denied by a block on the line that looked suspiciously like it was over and if not then definitely hand ball! Finally the break through came on 25 mins when Luckett drilled a shot across the box that beat everyone and nestled in the corner. Captain Myatt went off injured to be replaced by Ellis in midfield. The half came to an end with Bromley on top, but Bracknell still looking able to equalize.
Once again in the second half it was The Ravens dominating The Robins, but the longer the score line remained 1-0 the more worried Bromley fans became that they could let it slip. On 64 mins with the game becoming increasingly more bad tempered we finally put some daylight between the sides when Ellis hit a fantastic volley from 25 yards that curled nicely into the top corner of the net. Macca then switched the side around and Bartley ended up putting in an efficient stint at centre back with Grant Watts going up front. The main share of the possession was still Bromley’s until the final whistle, but with no more goals the only real talking points came when Bracknell’s cynical centre back Underwood went down with a nasty looking hamstring injury and a full on brawl following an horrific challenge from Smith on Ellis. Referee Gee was awful in general leaving both sides baffled on occasions and his assistants failed to see anything. 2-0 the final score and 3 points on the board at last!
