BROMLEY 2 BECKENHAM TOWN 2 – FRIENDLY 07/09/04

A mixture of first team and reserves took on the local Kent Leaguers and played out a game in a very competitive fast paced style ending in a fair draw.

Early on, the direct Becks style had Bromley under pressure and Okafor was on hand to clear off the line. Paul Kember got stuck into his central midfield role, but unfortunately for him he was penalised for a hand ball in the area after 14 mins and Beckenham went 1-0 up from the spot kick. Bromley then started to dominate the possession and put together some nice moves, with young right back Marvin having a very good game. Vines shot over and Huggins then had a goal ruled out for offside just before the break.

The second half started with Hunter making a great save in the Bromley goal. Macca made several changes in personnel and in positions. Becks had a couple of good chances, before Bromley drew level on 74 mins when Huggins turned sharply to convert a Suleymanoglu cross for 1-1. Akdag was brought down in the box on 81 mins and Suleymanoglu stepped up to take the penalty. His effort was saved, but he reacted quickly to turn in the rebound. Bromley couldn’t hold on to the lead though and a free kick from the right bounced in past a static defence on 87 mins for 2-2, which was probably a fair reflection of the game. Beckenham look a good side this season and hopefully some of our lads got valuable time on the pitch.
