BROMLEY 1 CROYDON ATHLETIC 1 - LEAGUE 07/12/04
Another depressing, energy sapping, dire Tuesday night at Hayes Lane. We should have won this in the first half and then were lucky to hold on to a point in the second!
Labadie started up front as an emergency striker alongside Amoako, but in a very subdued beginning to the game it was Athletic who went closest with a header that went wide. On 17 mins Bromley took the lead when Kember was fouled and the free kick was headed home by Amoako from close range, his 50th goal for Bromley. Arkwright went close with a header from a corner shortly after, but then we eased off the pressure and the Rams came back into the game. Just before half time we paid the price for this when Matt Fowler cashed in on a mistake by Arkwright and beat Walker from 12 yards for 1-1.
The second half saw Athletic put Bromley under real pressure. Bennetts cleared off the line and Jackson blasted a great chance over the bar. It looked inevitable that the Rams would take the lead, but a combination of poor finishing and good keeping by Walker prevented this. Amoako did well down the left and set up Labadie, but Frankland comfortably held his shot. We lost our way in midfield and really didn’t create much in the way of chances, not helped by referee Mr Basten completely baffling the crowd with some of his decisions. Macca made three strange substitutions, taking off Drewett, Bennetts and Labadie, bringing on Taiwo, Jones and Matt Kember with little impact. Amoako got hit very late, but the ref ignored this and then Walker made one more good save before the game limped to a lame finish greeted by total silence as the fog rolled in.
