BROMLEY 1 TOOTING & MITCHAM UTD 2 – LEAGUE 08/01/05

Bromley were beaten by the better side in this derby encounter at Hayes Lane, blown away by a second half barrage from the Tooting forward line.

The game started evenly. Tooting keeper Venter went down under a challenge from Tiffin, but there didn’t seem much contact. Tooting had the first real chance, but the final shot went wide. Tooting looked the stronger side, Cort was a handful up front and the back line of Bowen and Nwanze looked solid. Bromley went close from a free kick and Amoako had a good run that was just cleared. The half ended all square in a strangely subdued atmosphere.

The second half was a different story though. Tooting came out all guns blazing and it was only the brilliance of Walker in goal that kept the scores at zero. The Terrors inevitable opening goal came on 66 mins when a shot from outside the box deflected off Stradwick and flew into the goal. Bromley rallied after going behind. Watson appeared to be brought down in the box for a penalty, but the ref Sheldrake awarded a free kick just outside and Drewett’s kick sailed just wide. Wakeling brought on Stone and Taiwo opting for an attacking formation and the Ravens were pressing Tooting in the box when Mr Sheldrake stopped the game for a rib injury to Nwanze! Possession was lost from the dead ball and so was the momentum. Tooting put the game beyond doubt on 82 mins when Hastings drove an unstoppable stop past Walker into the roof of the net. In the last few minutes Stone had our first shot on target which was comfortably saved, but he did go one better with his second effort in injury time when he hit a great half volley on the run to make it 1-2 at full time.
