WELLING UNITED 2 BROMLEY 0 – KENT SNR CUP SEMI – 08/04/03

Two penalties saw Welling get past us in a pretty evenly contested semi-final. Sadly the difference between Ryman One and Doc Martens Premier showed, as they looked a little sharper, stronger and faster than us over the 90 mins and significantly better in centre midfield.

The game started with Bromley looking good going forward, but never really getting the final shot off. George and Falana were lively and worked hard continuously over the whole game. Sadly with Welling’s first attack Bromley got caught playing offside and with Amaning the wrong side of his man he was punished for a clumsy tackle by the award of a penalty. Farley smashed his shot down the middle and we were 1-0 down. Drewett looked great with the ball at his feet and really worried the Wings, but the play was broken down around the edge of the box nearly every time. There was still hope going into the break that we might find a way through.

The second half saw Bromley looking ragged at first and Chuck made a couple of vital saves as we got caught in possession too many times. Myatt and Luckett in centre midfield gave the ball away far too much and Drewett and Harney had to come far too deep to get the ball leaving the forwards isolated. The Ravens did gain momentum and had a lot more of the play, but still only really had half chances in the box, George and Harris going close with headers. Late on a good move found George in the box, but just as he was about to shoot Burgess got in a vital block. Going into injury time Bromley got caught flat at the back and Harris brought down a Welling forward for their second penalty. This time Farley placed the ball into the left hand corner for 2-0 and the game was over.
