WORTHING 2 BROMLEY 1 – LEAGUE 08/11/03

For the first time this season Bromley were comprehensively outplayed and deserved to be beaten by a very good Worthing side who could have had a lot more than two goals. Gavin Gedes opened the scoring on 8 mins with a terrific curling effort from long range, which gave Harwood no chance at all. The home side were totally on top and Bromley looked rattled more than at any other time this season when under constant pressure. On 20 mins Worthing were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box, but Sam Francis blasted his kick over the bar. Two minutes later Bromley managed to draw level when from a corner Tony Reid just scrambled the ball over the line, according to the linesman! From that point in the half we came back into things, with lots more possession, but no real efforts on goal. The break came with the score at 1-1.

The home side had the better of the whole of the second half with Bromley reduced to only two shots on target, which didn’t even trouble the keeper! The inevitable winning goal for Worthing came on 58 mins when a great cross from the left was headed home by Rogers at the far post. Harwood had to go off injured not long after the goal with a muscle pull, Andy Hunt came on and did very well when called upon. Bromley were out-battled in midfield and couldn’t match what is a classy side who will be up there all season. We had some periods of play in the final few minutes that looked promising, but nothing really came of it.
