BROMLEY 1 HORSHAM 3 – LEAGUE 10/01/04

This was probably the worst display of the season. Only Amoako, George, Harney and Hammond came out with any credit and with so many players going missing during the game two dreadful errors by Andy Hunt in goal gifted the points to Horsham. It is such a shambles at the moment that we couldn’t even name five subs!

It all started so brightly as Bromley tore in to the sluggish visitors defence and showed great pace going forward. Amoako roasted Kirby and crossed for George who finished well for 1-0 on 7 mins, but only 2 mins later Hunt was stranded on his line as a cross from the right was headed back over him by Charman into the net for 1-1. Bromley fell apart in midfield and failed to get anything together following this blow for quite a while before settling again. Bizarrely we over played at the back and then humped it too long for the hard working strikers, bypassing an anonymous midfield. Only Hammond looked likely to create anything, but his crosses were wasted with no target man. On 30 mins Overton lost the ball and Horsham broke the ball came to Walker who scuffed his shot through a falling Hunts legs and into the goal for 1-2! George went close with a header just before the break, but this was frustrating as hell performance.

Within a minute of the restart Horsham wrapped the game up when Bromley lost the ball in midfield and then tried to play offside unsuccessfully. This gave the visitors all the time they wanted and Charman scored again under Hunt’s body. Overton was unable to find a Bromley player with any pass and yet Walker saw fit to substitute Tydeman for Myatt. Amoako went close a couple of times from headers, before Falana finally got on, but he replaced Hammond so there was no supply! With no left midfield and no real shape to the team Bromley were all at sea for a while, but still could possibly have got a draw with the chances they created. Kirby cleared off the line following a free kick, Falana was denied by Burton twice and George hit the post late on after rounding the keeper. In truth we got what the majority of the team deserved and the despair I felt was put into perspective when I saw Jerry Dolke’s face after the final whistle, how must he feel?
