BROMLEY 6 CHATHAM TOWN 1 - FRIENDLY 10/08/02
I just hope we didn’t do this a week too early! This saw an awesome display by Macca’s men against a strong and very aggressive Doc Martens League side, won with stylish play and good finishing. The scoring began on 8 mins when Drewett was fouled just inside the box and Myatt placed the kick into the corner. On 10 mins Bartley was fouled by their hapless No.4 Hearn who had also given away the penalty, he didn’t like the banter and even changed his shirt to 17 at half time! Bartley was ordered to be substituted by The Ref, but revenge was sweet as Myatt curved the fierce free kick into the top corner for 2-0.
Bartley came back on later in the half and his header hit the bar, as did Thompson’s wickedly struck shot from 20 yards only minutes later. Chatham Keeper Fewell made one more fine save before the half came to an end.
The second half started quietly right up to 60 mins when Neil scored for the visitors with a neat finish in the box. This seemed to spark Bromley back into life and Grant Watts put us two up again with a header on 64 mins. Akuamoah made it four on 70 mins when he showed amazing footwork to leave the keeper on the floor and slide the ball in from an acute angle. 5 mins on Grant Watts scored the best of the goals when he got clear of the defence and stood the ball up on the edge of the box before chipping Fewell brilliantly with the ball dropping just in under the bar. With 5 mins to go debutant Adolph Amoko added the sixth with a nice run in the box and a great finish wrong footing the keeper and finding the net. Saunders looked impressive in his first start at the back and the whole team in general passed a good test against a physical side.
Quote for the game, ‘Shut up 4!’
