CHERTSEY TOWN 1 BROMLEY 4 – LEAGUE 10/09/02

Finally Bromley did what they should to a team who could barely string two passes together for most of the game, but still they had a 20 minute spell in the second half when they nearly threw it away!

Bromley playing 3-5-2 opened the scoring on 6 mins when a wonderful move saw Kirk Watts cut in and beat the keeper one on one with a cool finish. Despite looking a little shaky at the back Bromley didn’t come under much pressure and spent most of the half in the Chertsey half, who became more ragged looking and resorted to some awful challenges. Kirk Watts turned provider on 33 mins when he beat his marker before rolling the ball across the area for Amoako to tap in the second. 2-0 at half time and it should have been more with that amount of possession.

The second half saw Bromley start poorly and Chertsey put together their best spell of the match. The Ravens began to get involved in the petty physical confrontations instigated by the home side and lose their shape & focus. On 66 mins Bromley fans worst fears were raised when Chertsey got one back from a corner. Minutes later they had a glorious chance to equalise but their unmarked striker headed the ball wide. Finally Bromley got back into the game and Grant Watts came on to add some strength up front. On 80 mins Bartley was played through and he lofted the ball over the keeper and ran to the fans to celebrate as it dropped in under the bar for 3-1. 2 mins later Kirk Watts scored the final goal of the game combining well with his brother and smashing the ball past the over worked keeper from 12 yards. The game finished with Bromley on top and looking for more goals, but it was hard to forget how bad they had played for a period after the break and a better team would have made us pay.
