BROMLEY 0 CROYDON ATHLETIC 1 LEAGUE 11/03/03
Any chance of promotion for the Ravens was finally extinguished as yet again Bromley failed to beat lower placed opposition and indeed went one better by losing all three vital points in the final minutes of the game.
Bromley started fairly brightly with a series of corners and two good saves by keeper Frankland, but they seemed strangely cautious in attack and their passing was often misplaced. On 38 mins the Rams were awarded a penalty for a clear handball by Vines. Luckily Chuck made a good save from the spot kick. Chuck again was called upon to pounce on an attack just before the break and was hit very late for his troubles, requiring treatment for the pain.
The second half was dreadful stuff. Bromley played far too deep and complicated things with silly back passes, over-complex set pieces and off-target passing. Harris got a nasty looking knock and was obviously in trouble, before he was hit late again and could barely move for the rest of the game, but there was no sign of activity from the bench. Croydon dealt with any attacking threat comfortably, Kirk Watts and Gary Drewett were starved of the ball and so in turn were the strikers. On 88 mins a break down the right saw the ball crossed to the edge of the box and Evans smashed home Athletic's winner. It was exactly what Bromley deserved for their display. We sorely missed Amoako and George and you really have to wonder where we go from here.
