HASTINGS UNITED 1 BROMLEY 0 – LEAGUE 11/09/04
For the third time so far this season Bromley were out muscled by an ex-Doc Martens side and as a result came away from the south coast with nothing.
For 30 mins we had the better of the game. Knowles had to tip over a header by Amoako and Adolph went close two more times shortly after. Taiwo also had an effort sail just over the bar before Hastings got the game by the balls and never looked back. On 32 mins a free kick from the right bounced past a static Bromley back line before Carl Rook headed in off the bar. The Ravens then totally lost their way and Hastings had two more great chances to score and Walker was called upon to make a couple of fine saves. New centre back signing Romuald Duoa scuffed a chance wide on 44 mins. Going into the break Hastings were winning 100% of the headers and tackles and soaking up aimless long balls hit to Bromley’s two diminutive strikers.
The second half saw Bromley start brightly and keep the ball on the grass, which seemed the only option given Hastings aerial dominance. Huggins went close before he was flattened by Mortley and later had to go off. Macca changed both strikers despite the fact that it was obviously the midfield that was the problem and we were out battled and generally creatively clueless! Rook missed a great opportunity to make it 2-0, after blasting over a rebound from a Walker save. Paul Kember finally came on for the ineffective Henriques, but it was too late to make a real difference. Bennetts lobbed the ball just wide in the final minute, but it would have been a travesty for Bromley to have got anything from this abject performance.
