HORSHAM 0 BROMLEY 4 - LEAGUE 11/12/04

The return of George Wakeling and Frank Coles to Bromley Football Club got off to the perfect start away at high flying Horsham. A solid display of great goal scoring and sound defending saw us come back from Sussex with three points.

Playing a 5-4-1 formation Bromley put the Hornets under pressure from the start and took the lead on 5 mins when Amoako ran on to a good through ball and brilliantly lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box. Only 2 mins later the usually vocal home support were silenced for the rest of the game when Okafor was fouled on the left wing and Taiwo whipped in his free kick for Luckett to flick his header past Elliott and make it 2-0! Horsham came back into the game from there and Walker had to make two fine saves from well crafted moves. The game was very open and Wakeling was heard from the touchline encouraging his side to continue to work hard. At the break it was clear that the next goal would be crucial.

The Ravens came out flying again in the second half and grabbed the key third goal on 48 mins when a corner was headed against the keeper by Luckett who then deflected the rebound into the net, before running to the fans. Horsham pushed Bromley on to the back foot for a period, but the Ravens came back when Drewett went on a great run before setting up Taiwo whose shot was saved.

Walker made another great save after we were caught hesitating at the back, but we came back with the perfect response on out next attack. A corner from the left was flicked on by Stradwick to Henriques who controlled the ball on his chest before cracking the ball into the net on the half volley for 4-0 on 74 mins. Horsham hit the bar late on, but Bromley stood firm and the Hornets then resorted to kicking Bromley’s players with Drewett having to undergo lengthy treatment. From one of the resulting free kicks Taiwo was only centimetres wide of the goal with a great effort, but there were to be no more goals and the game finished with the fans looking forward to Tuesday night.
