ROMFORD 1 BROMLEY 2 – WEMBLEY CUP 12/08/03
This was a very competitive match played on a warm night in sunny Essex and on more than one occasion the game nearly boiled over, but wise substitutions just managed to keep things verbally aggressive.
Romford had the better of the first half and went very close with a long range lob. Bromley looked promising on the break, but occasionally over played and tried to be too clever. Vines and Ellis both got involved after being caught late and Vines was eventually subbed when he squared up to a Romford thug before half time. Just before the break Butler cleared another effort off the line to keep it 0-0.
The second half was a different story with the Ravens dominating play and carving out several good scoring opportunities before finally taking the lead on 59 mins with a Grant Watts penalty after Kirk was fouled in the box. Forbes, Amoako, George and Reid all went close before George scored a wonderful second goal on 80 mins. Bobby picked the ball up out wide and cut in beating the keeper and finishing from a tight angle just inside the box. Just 2 mins later, with Danny Harwood distracted by an impending substitution, Romford got one back with a nice finish from 12 yards. Bromley weren’t troubled in the final stages and Mark Hammond showed some nice footwork wide on the right with Kember getting stuck in as usual.
