SLOUGH TOWN 4 BROMLEY 2 – LEAGUE 12/11/03
The fact that Slough’s fans were singing Andy Hunt’s name near the end of the game probably tells you what you need to know about this one! We were two down in three minutes and never really stood a chance of getting back into it from there.
The Rebels first goal came inside the first minute when a low cross from the left wrong-footed the defence and Hodge tapped in from close range past a static Hunt. On 3 mins a high cross was headed home by an unchallenged Spencer past Hunt who was rooted to his line. Bromley were reeling, but they did gather their spirits and make inroads to the Slough defence. Both Reid and Forbes went close, but on 19 mins it was 3-0 when a penalty was awarded for a clear foul and Spencer drove the ball under Hunt. Bromley had another period of possession leading to a goal on 25 mins when a Hammond cross was sliced into his own net by Murphy. Any hope of a comeback was soon squashed on 30 mins when Hunt was caught coming out for a ball he could never have got and Miller rolled the chance into an empty net. 4-1 going at half time and despite that fact that we weren’t playing that badly there really was no way back from this.
Bromley came out five minutes early for the second half, but the worrying thing was that they were split into three groups and poor Andy Hunt was left on his own looking forlorn in the goalmouth. Slough did have a few chances, but Bromley had a lot of possession in the second period and sub Paul Vines provided a spark up front, with Kember strengthening midfield. With 10 mins to go Forbes powered a header towards goal from a corner and Danny Smith nodded the ball into the roof of the net for 4-2. We had a couple of efforts on goal, but nothing that really troubled Foster in the the Rebels goal from that point and it ended that way.
