BROMLEY 3 CORINTHIAN CASUALS 0 – LEAGUE 13/03/04

Bromley dominated this game for the whole 90-plus minutes, but it was only in injury time that they finally put the game beyond doubt with two well taken goals. Early on Knight saved at the feet of a Casuals striker and then Potterill cleared the following corner off the line. Bromley finally sparked into life and had a series of good chances from set pieces. Amoako headed a corner against the bar and Wilfort also went close. We were thriving off the great corners provided by Harney. Bobby George shot just wide after being played in by Harney and Amoako looked to have been fouled for a penalty after being played in by Bob. We wasted several good opportunities going into the half, a Zahana-Oni free kick deflected wide right on the whistle. Casuals defended well, but it looked like we should win this one.

It was all Bromley in the second half. Drewett missed a virtual open goal when 17 year old keeper Williams was stranded. The goal finally came on 57 mins when the awesome Kevin George was brought down by Kentebe and ref Chittenden pointed to the spot. Amoako stepped up and slotted the kick away from a very muddy penalty spot. We should have kicked on from here, but appeared to switch off and Casuals almost got back in the game when Knight fumbled, but the defence scrambled the ball clear. Bromley rallied again and started playing some really nice stuff, Zahana-Oni headed just wide and sub Paul Vines missed another open goal opportunity from a Drewett cross. Another corner was cleared off the line, but the fear of us not taking our chances and getting sucker punched grew amongst the fans. Our nerves were eventually settled as we went into injury time. Vines was played in by Drewett and he took his goal brilliantly when one on one. Only seconds later Kevin George ran in from the right, avoiding the desperate challenges of the visitors and cutting in to the six yard box before scoring from an almost impossible angle for 3-0! It may have been too little too late, but it was really nice to watch.
