BROMLEY 1 ROMFORD 1 (4-2 pens) Wembley Cup 13/08/02
Deja vu? Very much like last season the annually contested Wembley Cup was won on penalties by The Ravens and it was keeper Martini who made two crucial penalty saves, one in normal time and one in the shoot out.
The game saw Bromley dominate possession, but fail to score right up until 88 mins. Romford looked good on the break and from one of those had a penalty given for hand ball only to see the well struck but straight kick saved on 15 mins. Flying out of defence again on 21 mins Leslie finished a good move well from the edge of the box and the Essex Senior League side were ahead. Bromley attacked constantly but began to look frustrated by a hard defence and a resilient keeper, by the time the first half ended tempers were beginning to fray!
The second half was the same story with Bromley dominating and Romford worrying a very eccentric Martini on the break. Kirk Watts came on and looked a class above as did Amoko when he came on later. It looked like the tough tackling no nonsense visitors were going to take the Cup back across The Thames, until after numerous close shaves Adolph Amoko got on the end of a cross from a short corner and poked the ball in for 1-1 and penalties!
Luckett surprisingly missed the target with the first kick but, Martini made a fine save and saw another put wide, before Myatt scored the winner.
Quote for the game, Its not PC, but I love Adolph!
