MARGATE 3 BROMLEY 1 – KENT SENIOR CUP FIRST RD 13/11/01

A spirited display from The Ravens against Conference opposition, with whom we competed on level terms for most of the match. On a very cold and windy seaside night Bromley gave a good account of themselves and could well have taken the game to extra time if they had been a little more confident in front of goal. After an even opening spell of play Margate took the lead on 20mins when ex-Cray man Phil Collins drove home, finishing off a good move in side the box. Bromley didn’t fall apart though and came back into the game with a series of good attacking moves that were let down by the final pass. Then with 2mins left before the break Watts hit a fierce looping effort over their keeper and into the corner of the net for 1-1 at half time. In the second half it was the same story The Ravens looked good going forward, but failed to take their chances. Margate went in front again on 65mins when Lamb’s well struck shot from distance beat Harwood, who had a very good game over all. Late on Thomas had the best chance to take the game into extra time, but couldn’t quite bring the ball under control in time and soon after Margate secured their victory when Hafner scored on 87mins. Their keeper Charlie Mitten then turned and gave a taunting gesture to our small band of supporters, he was soon told what a c**t he was!

Quote for the game, ‘London rejects, London rejects, hello, hello!’
