BROMLEY 2 CROYDON 0 – LEAGUE 13/12/03

Dave Garland’s current victims came to the Nest and were on the end of a 2-0 home win, but it could have all been very different if they had a decent striker.

Former Raven Kris Hollidge went off early with an arm injury, which was probably the best thing for him as all the HLU’s rage was then directed to Garland! Bromley had the first 30 mins, making some nice passing movements and pressuring Croydon, but only ever creating one clear chance, when McKoy’s cross was headed over by Amoako. Croydon were strong at the back marshalled by the impressive Fox and then came back into the game. By half time they’d had five good chances to score catching Bromley static at the back and looking shaky. Luckily for the Ravens neither of the Trams front men had their shooting boots on and the sides went in at 0-0.

Croydon started the second half brightly too and once again a cooler head in front of goal could have cost Bromley dear. Eventually with Kember pulling the strings the Ravens came back into things. Paul Vines came on to give us three up front and on 63 mins they broke the deadlock. A throw to Wilfort was cut back to Harney on the edge of the box and his fierce low drive went in off the post. The momentum then shifted to Bromley for the remainder of the game and they put it beyond doubt on 78 mins when a long high ball caught keeper Odlum coming too far out of his area - he directed his header straight to Vines who coolly curled his shot round the stunned defenders and into the corner of the net for 2-0.The only blow for Bromley in the closing minutes was Tony Reid having to be helped off the pitch after tangling with Cecil. The final whistle was greeted with a huge cheer and a little more stick for Big Daddy while applauding the players.
