BROMLEY 1 CORINTHIAN CASUALS 1 – LEAGUE 14/09/04
Another Tuesday night at Hayes Lane and another tale of missed chances and possession not turned into goals that saw us only take a point from a game we should have walked. It was only thanks to Andy Walker making two good late saves that we got a point from this frustrating nonsense of a performance.
We had all the early possession creating a few half chances and looking bright. Kember’s hard tackling game was a refreshing change from the lightweight midfield display on Saturday. Casuals did come into the game a bit more, but we did always look the better team. Vines’ pace won us a penalty on 32 mins when he beat Horwood to the ball and was hacked down in the box. Taiwo struck a quality penalty to make it 1-0, hitting the ball into the top right and corner of the net. Taiwo went close once more before the break, but we also had a lucky escape at the back when Walker lost a cross and Okafor headed the ball just wide of his own goal.
The second half saw us start on top and miss two great chances to seal the game, Huggins missed a one on one and Vines struck an effort straight at the keeper Williams when he could have placed a shot wide of him. Casuals slowly edged their way back into the game as Bromley frustrated and over played. The departure of Kember for Henriques was the turning point as we lost the battle in midfield from then on and after Drewett went off injured to be replaced by Suleymanoglu the midfield was a complete joke. Walker made two good saves before on 84 mins a long lofted cross was too much for him or the defence to handle and Byatt headed home at the far post for 1-1. Amoako came on too late to make a difference for Vines, although Huggins just didn’t seem to have his game together. Walker made two more good saves before the final whistle came to boos and the sound of Bromley fans voicing their annoyance at experiencing Tuesday de ja vu!
