BROMLEY 2 FLEET TOWN 0 - LEAGUE 14/12/04

Bromley grabbed three vital points and broke their Tuesday night curse at Hayes Lane with solid defending and some nice attacking play against an improving Fleet side who were hard to break down.

The Ravens started brightly playing the same 5-4-1 formation as Saturday. Taiwo went close from a free kick and Amoako was denied by keeper Gray when connecting with an Okafor cross. We continued to dominate the game, but didn’t really have any clear cut chances. At the other end Walker was called upon to show some nice footwork on more than one occasion from back passes. Bromley thought they had been awarded a penalty after a foul on Amoako by Hinds, but play was called back as Taiwo stepped up when the ref spotted his linesman at the other end flagging. The ball apparently went out of play for a throw at the early stages of the move. Fleet had a spell on top following this and the long balls to Amoako were asking too much of even him! Then just before the break Taiwo went close and Amoako headed over from a great Okafor cross. Fleet’s Hinds was very impressive in central defence and contributed greatly to the 0-0 score line.

Fleet had a spell on top after the break and then ironically Bromley took the lead! On 50 mins Luckett crossed the ball from the left and debutant Julian Curnow headed home for 1-0. On 67 mins Fleet were reduced to 10 men when Amoako broke clear of the away defence only to be brought down by Morant. The right back claimed to have won the ball but ref and linesman both judged it to be a foul and he was shown the red card. Taiwo’s free kick was blocked by the jumping wall. Fleet did put us under pressure, but the Ravens defence was solid and Walker was on hand to save anything that got through. Luckett had a fine effort tipped over by Gray, Taiwo went on a great solo run and saw his effort come out off the inside of the post, then from the following corner Amoako shot just over. Finally with 3 mins left Bromley sealed the victory when Amoako skilfully chipped Gray from the edge of the box. Drewett could have made it three, but his effort was tipped over by the overworked Gray. The final whistle was greeted with a chorus of ‘Georgie Wakeling’s Black & White Army’ and Hayes Lane felt like home again...
