AFC WIMBLEDON 1 BROMLEY 0 – LEAGUE 15/01/05
If only the players had been as up for it as the fans! For the second week in a row Bromley were beaten by a better side and failed to register anything like a serious attempt on goal. Too many of our young players froze in front of a big crowd as the Dons brushed us aside on their march to the title.
The first half saw Wimbledon have the better chances, but Andy Walker was equal to anything hit in his direction and looked very comfortable. Curnow had to go off injured after being hit in the back by Walker as he claimed a cross. Stradwick came on and went into the centre back slot. Stone and Amoako went closest for Bromley and we had a scramble from a corner just before the break, but we were quite happy to go in at 0-0.
The second half saw the Dons completely dominate the match and the inevitable goal came on the hour when Stradwick was caught out at the back. Richard Butler had his shot saved but cashed in at the second attempt and it was 1-0. We had a short spell after the goal when we could have troubled the Dons, but their debutant keeper Cole was never troubled and on occasions our forward play was rushed and blunt. The Dons just didn’t let us get going and dealt with anything we had comfortably. Right at the end we had a very good shout for a penalty for handball in the six yard box by Butler following a corner but the ref waved it away and blew for full time. All the close calls went to the home side, but we got what we deserved out of this.
