WORTHING 0 BROMLEY 2 – ABANDONED AT H/T 16/03/02

The rain had started lashing down on the Sussex Coast at 1.45pm By 2.30 the game looked in doubt with standing water in several places, but the Ref wanted to give it a go and Bromley certainly did that! After a fiery start with both teams attacking at will, 22 mins into the game Bromley took the lead. A floated free kick was headed by Bartley powerfully against the bar and Drewett knocked in the ball as it bounced up off the line. Harwood made a couple of fine saves as the rain began to fall even heavier and there were some wild challenges going in leading up to the break. Just before 45 mins Drewett turned the Worthing left back inside out and sent a low hard cross into the six yard box where Stevens sliced the ball into his own net!

As the players went off the rain continued to cascade down and The Ravens feared the worse. 5 mins later our worst fears were confirmed when the news broke that The Ref had abandoned the game. Typically as soon as the decision was made the rain stopped, Bromley players and officials pleaded with The Ref to re-consider, but he would not and we will have to return to Worthing on a Tuesday night later in the season.

Quote for the game, ‘He would have played on if they were 2-0 up!’
