FLEET TOWN 0 BROMLEY 2 - LEAGUE - 16/04/05
A comfortable away win down in Hampshire saw Bromley continue their fine run of form and move up into the playoff positions.
Playing down the very steep slope in the first half Bromley put real pressure on the home defence from the start. George and Billy kept with the 4-4-2 formation and the players looked really comfortable in their roles. Falana had an early shot well saved by 16 year old keeper Justin Gray, but the youngster was given no chance on 12 mins when a corner from the right was missed by Hinds and headed into his own net by Riley. Gray did make good saves from Tommo, Locke and a Luckett free kick as the half went on and Bromley continued to push for a further advantage. McLeod was involved in a clash with home defender Darnton, with both players probably lucky only to get yellow cards. The second goal finally came on 41 mins when a corner was only half cleared and Locke directed the ball to Tommo who showed great composure in controlling the ball and firing home from six yards out. 2-0 at half time and Bromley looked very good for it.
The second half was a lower key affair. Fleet were reduced to wild shots from distance that went very high over the bar and into the woods. Bromley, although playing nice stuff, didn’t really keep up their intensity from the first period. Tommo went closest when sliding in at the far post to meet a Drewett cross, but the ball went just wide. Falana and Tommo were both denied by last ditch challenges when through on goal and Henriques headed over, but that was about it. Falana won every header up front and the defence was as solid as ever, but the midfield take the props for the way they controlled the whole match. Fleet's forward Archibold was sent off very late on for protesting too much after not being awarded a penalty for a clear dive in the box. A comfortable win and onto a massive game on Tuesday night...
