BROMLEY 1 WINDSOR & ETON 0 – LEAGUE 17/04/04
You just knew it would happen! On the day it was mathematically confirmed that we couldn't get in the play off place Bromley went and beat the league leaders with out ever really being in any danger of losing the game!
On a pitch that was as dry today as it was wet last week, both sides took a while to adjust to the windy conditions. The first talking point came early on when Tilbury elbowed Watson in the face right in front of the linesman. Amazingly, ref Knight only showed the Royalist defender a yellow card! This was the first of a series of spineless and nonsensical decisions made by the rotund buffoon. O’Connor missed an easy chance for Windsor when he slipped his marker at the front post, but Bromley had the fair share of pressure without ever really threatening ex-Raven Chuck Martini in the away goal. Harwood made a great save from a Carroll free kick during a scrappy spell of play. Just at the break Zahana-Oni was very lucky not to see red when, under provocation from Tilbury, he lashed out with an elbow prior to a corner. After a bit of finger pointing the half came with the score at 0-0.
The second half saw Bromley put Windsor under increasing pressure, but the nagging doubt of them catching us on the beak was always there. Former Bromley striker Tony Reid missed the Royalists' only chances, while as the game went on the Ravens started to really threaten the Windsor goal. Myatt had a shot brilliantly saved by Martini and then Zahana-Oni saw his header go just over from the following corner. Finally on 80 mins with the home crowds encouragement Bromley got their break through when Wilfort got his head to a corner and nodded home for the only goal. This was another display of character, team spirit and good football, which makes our league position baffling.
